Auramask FAQ

Does light therapy utilise UV light?

No. The Auramask utilises a combination of blue, red, yellow and cyan light and near-infrared (not visible tothenaked eye) light-emitting diodes(LEDs) only.

When is the best time to use my Auramask?

We recommend using the Auramask as part of your night routine after cleansing, and before applying your skin care serums and creams. This is because whilst we sleep, our skin goes into ‘rest-mode’, where skin functions put energy into repairing, nourishing and rebuilding cells and key components of the skin barrier. Hence, when we do light therapy closer to this time, the skin is able to focus and better use the nourishment the light wavelengths provide. However, you can safely and effectively use your Auramask as part of your morning routine also, if that suits your lifestyle!

How long is the battery meant to last?

When the remote is fully charged, on maximum intensities, the Auramask will last 1 hour.

Why do I need to remove my makeup?

Many makeup formulas contain minerals that may deflect light. Clean, freshly washed skin is recommended for best results. For example, if your foundation or any other product applied to your face before your treatment contains sunscreen, it will block some of the light waves from penetrating through the skin layers and cause an ineffective treatment.

How do I clean my Auramask?

The mask is extremely low maintenance, only needing a simple wipe over to keep it clean and prevent bacteria build-up.

What should I feel during the LED Light Therapy treatment?

During your treatment, its normal to feel warm, tightening sensations. This is because the Auramask is stimulating blood circulation, waking up collagen and elastin, and strengthening the skin’s barrier. For this reason, once the treatment is finished, your skin may appear slightly pink or red for the next few hours, which will reduce slowly after the treatment.

Can I still use LED Light if my skin is sensitive?

Absolutely! There are many clinical studies and multitudes of practitioners in the industry that advocate and recommend LED Light Therapy to be effective at reducing sensitivity in the skin, and actually PREVENT reactiveness within the skin by strengthening the skin’s barrier. For this reason, we recommend using your Auramask on Red, Yellow and Cyan lights, which all combine infrared light therapy for reactive and sensitive skin types.

Why is my LED mask and skin getting warm?

Whilst using your Auramask, the skin is rapidly absorbing the light energy the mask emits through the wavelengths of light, where the mask will warm through the irradiation of this light energy. This is a GOOD thing as the warmth not only helps open pored to promote absorption, but also has a positive effect on reducing pore size when the treatment is completed over time.

Can I wear SPF under my Auramask?

Sunscreen interferes with LED Light Therapy Sunscreen will block a broad range of light waves and this will reduce the effects of your LED light therapy treatment. Meaning it will take longer to see the desired results. Be sure to read the labels on all skincare products, particularly, makeup and moisturiser. lf they contain sunscreen, wash your skin thoroughly before any light therapy treatment (which we recommend to do regardless for best results!)

Do I apply my skincare before the LED light treatment?

The reactions skincare products have to LED lights vary depending on their chemical formulas and the type of light being used.
In example, a non-compounded form of hyaluronic acid is a great addition to your LED Light Therapy treatment when applied onto cleansed skin before putting on your Auramask, acting like a big glass of water for your skin cells! Hydrated skin will always get a better result from your light therapy treatment, as skin functions are able to perform best, and allow the light wavelengths key benefits to be seen on the skin even faster.

Other ingredients, such as AHA’s, BHA’s and Retinols, are too active to be worn under LED light and can cause skin irritation or reactions due to the acids being intensified by the light wavelengths. We recommend the use of these after your LED treatment.

It’s very important to review the best practices for applying your preferred skincare and beauty products before, during, and after LED light therapy. See our cheat sheet for recommendations on LED treatments and home care regimes, based on your skin concerns!

Do I need to wear goggles underneath my LED mask?

To make sure your LED treatment is both safe, and comfortable, we recommend either using the eye-shields provided to block the light from the eyes, or simply, closing your eyes and getting a well-deserved nap! If you’re a multi-tasker and choose to wear your Auramask whilst watching a movie or doing some emails, as the light waves do not contain UV and hence, are not dangerous to the eye, can also safely be worn without eye shields with eyes open, based on your personal preference and comfort. We also note that as the Auramask is not designed to be worn with goggles underneath, doing so may result in distortion or wear and tear of your mask.

Can LED be enjoyed by someone who has had cancer?

LED can be enjoyed by someone who has had cancer but it has to be determined on an individual basis and medical advice needs to be sought from an oncologist or doctor. Unfortunately, we aren't able to advise on conditions that have been cared for under a medical practitioner.

Is it safe to use the Auramask & Auraderm Wand whilst pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes! LED Light therapy and the tech behind each device does not conflict with pregnancy, and is a safe treatment option to regulate your skin and the changes pregnancy and breastfeeding brings to the skin's behaviour. We always advice to confirm with your medical practitioner for tailored advice to you.
